I’m not a big Delta fan. Their miles, or as frequent flyers call them, Skypesos, are worth less than most other mileage currencies. Their miles can still be useful, but they rarely provide opportunities for outsized business or first class redemption values or last minute bargains as other mileage currencies offer.

You will almost always do better spending on cards that earn 2 points per dollar everywhere like theAMEX Blue Business Plus,Citi Double Cash® Card,Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card,Capital One Venture X Business,orCapital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

But I have to give them credit for the 747 credit card series.

2 years ago I applied for and was approved for a Delta Reserve Business AMEX. That had more to do with the card than the card’s benefits. The card’s metal comes from a retired Delta Boeing 747 and I’m a sucker for anything related to the Queen of the Skies.

And through 6/5, you can once again get a Delta Reserve consumer or business card that contains 33% metal from a retired Delta 747. There’s nothing quite like seeing and flying on the mighty 747.

8 years ago I took my son Rafi on a 747 trip, an experience he still talks about today.

7 years ago I used miles to fly on United’s final 747 flight.

You can still fly on a 747, but it’s not easy anymore. Air China flies the 747-400 and 747-8 on routes like Beijing-JFK, Korean Air flies the 747-8 on routes like Seoul to/from Atlanta, JFK, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Paris, and Lufthansa flies the 747-8 on routes like Frankfurt to/from Chicago, Houston, JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

We used 83K Chase points to Aeroplan last December to fly first class on the Lufthansa 747-8 from Vienna to Cleveland via Frankfurt and Chicago and had a magnificent time in the First Class Terminal and in the nose of the grand Queen of the Skies:
